Algo, the first range of seaweed paints

Since 1970, the company ALGO manufactures professional paints, mainly for the sectors of industry and construction.

In 2009, it decided to develop a future project with products that respect the environment and health, promote local and renewable raw materials and boost its presence in the building sector. Thanks to an R&D team and partnerships with research laboratories, ALGO has developed the first painting with algae.

The range of products is made of 98% biosourced substances. It emits just 1g / L of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), while the European Ecolabel (which it has also obtained) sets a limit of 30 g / L on this criterion. A life cycle analysis was carried out (Environmental and Sanitary Data Sheet, or FDES) and the product obtained the pictogram A + for VOC emissions.

An award-winning innovation, in particular by the ADEME (French Environment & Energy Management Agency) and the Ministry of Ecology, which received the 2016 Pierre Potier Prize.
